Hiroshi Uchida Attorney
Hiroshi Uchida

Hiroshi has been a distinguished practicing attorney in the area of business. He started his career as a practicing attorney in 1986 at Law Firm of Matsuo & Kosugi, a general practice law firm in Japan.
At Matsuo & Kosugi, he practiced business laws such as Company Act and worked on broad cases such as international joint venture agreements, international license agreements, and litigation in the area of intellectual property and product-liability. He has been appointed as a court-appointed administrator and as a court-appointed supervisor in the area of bankruptcy, civil rehabilitation and corporate reorganization. From 1995 to 1996, he was a professor at the University of Leuven in Belgium. In 2004, he founded Uchida & Samejima Law Firm with Masahiro.

He passed the Bar Examination in Japan and graduated from Kyoto University in 1984 (Bachelor of Laws). As his community activities, he has trained legal apprentices and law school students.

Masahiro Samejima Attorney/Patent Attorney
Masahiro Samejima

Masahiro has experienced the combined areas of technology, business, and law. He started his career as an engineer at Fujikura Ltd. in 1985, where he researched and developed materials of electric cable. He passed the Patent Attorney Examination in 1991 and joined IBM Japan as a patent attorney in 1992, where he developed intellectual asset management, contributed to obtaining patents on Nobel Prize inventions, and was awarded “Special Contribution Prize”. He passed the Bar Examination in Japan in 1996 and joined the Legal Training and Research Institute in 1997.

As an attorney, he joined Ohba & Ozaki Law Firm in 1999 and Law Firm of Matsuo & Kosugi in 2000. In 2004, he founded Uchida & Samejima Law Firm with Hiroshi. He currently focuses on advising manufacturers in the combined area of technology and law, on advising business laws to IT corporations, and on providing intellectual property management consultation to technology corporations.

He graduated from Tokyo Institute of Technology (Bachelor of Metallic Engineering) in 1985. He has been appointed as a president of many government committees in the area of intellectual property. He authorized numerous books and articles such as “The Handbook of Patent Strategy” and “The Guidance to Legal Matters for System Engineers.”

Hisanori Oguri Attorney at Law (Japan and New York)/Patent Attorney
Hisanori  Oguri

Hisanori has experienced the combined area of technology, business and law and has been an experienced patent attorney as well as an attorney. He joined Toshiba Corporation in 1992, where he worked on license negotiations, IP litigations (domestic and U.S.) and consultation on various IP legal issues. During his carrier at Toshiba, he passed the Patent Attorney Examination in Japan (1994) and the New York Bar Exam (1999).

From 2001 to 2008, he worked at Takeda Law Office as a patent attorney with a focus on representing various IP litigations, conducting opinion works, drafting licensing agreements supporting licensing negotiations and so forth. He passed the Bar Examination and joined the Legal Training and Research Institute in 2008. In 2010, he joined Jones Day Tokyo, where he worked on mainly IP litigations and corporate law relating IP issues.

Akihiko Yagishita Attorney/Patent Attorney
Akihiko Yagishita

Akihiko's work experience lies in the combined areas of technology, business, and law. He started his career as an engineer at Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC) in 1994, where he engaged in product development and research of Organic Photoconductor (OPC). In 2000, he moved to the Department of Intellectual Property and after passing the Patent Attorney Examination later that year, he worked on intellectual property prosecution mainly in the chemical and electrical device areas for several countries such as Japan, US, Canada, EPC, China, Taiwan, Korea, and India. He also worked on external affairs of intellectual property such as licensing, technical contracts, and patent disputes in Japan and overseas. After leaving MCC in 2006, he studied at Toin University Law School while working as a patent attorney for Banryoku International Patent Firm. Yuzo has experience in technology law and was an experienced attorney before specializing in patent litigation. Takaaki Someya Attorney

In 2014 he joined Surcharge System Planning Div. & Consumer Legal System Div. in the Consumer Affairs Agency (“CAA”), Government of Japan, as deputy director. In the CAA, He was planned of in consumer-related bills that were submitted to the National Assembly by Japanese Government. In particular, he planned a bill to amend the part of the Act against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations to introduce a surcharge system. The law passed and was established by the National Assembly unanimous in November 2014. After that, he implemented the enforcement preparation of the amended act to introduce the Surcharge System to Act against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations. He planned the Order for Enforcement of the Act against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations, the Cabinet Ordinance for Enforcement of the Act against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations and the Guideline on the operation of the Surcharge System.
He Joined Uchida & Samejima Law Firm in Oct 2016. He is working on defense of CAA investigation that was the reason to the suspicion for the consumer regulations violation and intellectual property advising for technology corporations on intellectual property related strategies, focusing on information system related laws.

Takahiro Yanagimoto Attorney/Pharmacist
Masahiro Samejima

Takahiro received his M.S. in Pharmaceutical Science from the University of Tokyo in 2006, and was engaged in research in the field of advanced biotechnology at the University of Osaka.  After  qualifying as a patent attorney in 2008, he earned his J.D. in 2012 also from the University of Tokyo.  He joined Soei in 2012, where he handled patent applications, prosecutions, and appeals.  He completed his judicial training at the Legal Research and Training Institute of the Supreme Court, and registered as an attorney-at-law in 2014.
He currently handles invalidation trials before the Japan Patent Office, suits against trial decisions, IP litigation, and drafts contracts.  His technical fields of expertise are molecular pharmacology and organic synthesis.
He is from Yokohama and enjoys playing piano and violin.

Yohei Iwasaki Attorney
Yohei Iwasaki

Mr. Iwasaki has practiced law as an attorney at Uchida & Samejima Law Firm and previously at Nishimura & Asahi. Yohei Iwasaki is the country manager Japan of Kurion, inc, an Irvine based company known in Japan for removing cesium from the radioactive water at the Dai-Ichi plant in Fukushima for TEPCO, and leads business strategy and business development for its Japan operations. Most recently, Mr. Iwasaki was co-founder, CEO, and chief strategy officer of mOasis, a startup developing technology to improve productivity of agricultural land with its proprietary water storage material.

At mOasis, Mr. Iwasaki successfully completed two rounds of financing from venture capital firms and angel investors, and won first place in a seed funding competition held by the Stanford University Asia-Pacific Student Entrepreneurship Society.

Mr. Iwasaki has won other business plan competitions, including first place at the 2011 Plug & Play business plan competition, second place in the Stanford E-Challenge, and second place at the Stanford Social E-Challenge. He was also a finalist at the ImagineH20 business plan competition in 2011. Mr. Iwasaki also worked for startups and a private equity firm in multiple countries such as China, U.S., and Germany.
He holds MBA and MS in Environment and Resources from Stanford Graduate School of Business and Stanford School of Earth Sciences at Stanford University and has Bachelor of Law from University of Tokyo.
